GE Oven Error Code F20

This error code indicates a problem with the oven's temperature sensor (RTD sensor) or its connection, preventing the oven from accurately reading internal temperature. The oven will not heat properly until this issue is resolved.

Step 01

Signs

• Oven will not heat or maintains incorrect temperature • Error code F20 displays on the control panel • Oven may shut off during cooking cycles • Unable to preheat the oven • Cooking results are inconsistent or undercooked • Control panel may become unresponsive • Audible beeping with the error code display
Step 02

Possible Causes

• Faulty oven temperature sensor (RTD sensor/thermistor) located inside the oven cavity • Loose or disconnected wiring harness connected to the temperature sensor • Damaged or corroded sensor connector pins • Wire insulation damage caused by heat exposure or contact with oven interior • Control board malfunction preventing proper sensor signal reading • Food debris or grease buildup around the sensor probe • Sensor probe bent or physically damaged from contact with racks or cookware • Voltage supply issues from 240V circuit breaker affecting sensor power
Step 03

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Verify the circuit breaker powering the oven (typically 240V double-pole breaker) is in the ON position and has not tripped • Turn off the oven's power at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds, then turn back on to reset the appliance • Allow the oven to cool completely for 30 minutes before attempting to use it again • Inspect the oven interior for any visible obstructions, food debris, or grease buildup, especially around the temperature sensor location (typically on the interior right or left wall) • Visually check that the oven door closes completely and the door latch engages properly • Review the control panel display settings to ensure the oven is set to the correct cooking mode • If you can safely access the sensor area inside the oven cavity, gently clean around the sensor probe with a soft, dry cloth to remove any grease or debris • Attempt to run a preheat cycle to see if the error code clears • Check all visible wiring connections at the back of the oven control panel for any loose or disconnected plugs • Document when the error appears (during preheat, cooking, or specific modes) to provide to a service technician if the issue persists
Always disconnect power before performing any checks. If unsure, contact a certified technician.
