Step 01
Signs
• Oven will not heat or heats inconsistently
• Display shows F11 error code and oven locks out
• Temperature dial or digital readout does not respond to adjustments
• Oven beeps repeatedly and refuses to operate
• Preheating cycle fails to complete
• Food cooks unevenly or remains undercooked
• Oven may shut off mid-cycle automatically
Step 02
Possible Causes
• Faulty oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) that has failed or degraded
• Loose or corroded electrical connections at the sensor terminals
• Damaged wiring harness between sensor and control board
• Malfunctioning electronic control board unable to read sensor signals
• Sensor positioned incorrectly against heating element causing false readings
• Power supply issues affecting the 120V control circuit on 240V models
• Buildup of food debris or corrosion on sensor contacts
• Defective relay or capacitor on the control board
• Voltage fluctuations from home electrical system interfering with sensor readings
Step 03
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Check that your home circuit breaker for the range is in the ON position; if it has tripped, switch it OFF then back ON
• Ensure the oven door is fully closed and the door latch engages completely
• Allow the oven to cool for at least 30 minutes before attempting further operation
• Verify that no pots, pans, or food debris are blocking the oven interior or sensor area
• Look inside the oven with a flashlight to confirm the temperature sensor probe is not visibly damaged or touching the heating element
• Check that your kitchen outlet or hardwired connection has adequate voltage by testing another appliance (this may require a licensed electrician)
• Power reset the oven by switching the circuit breaker OFF for 60 seconds, then switch it back ON to clear temporary faults
• Review your oven's user manual to confirm F11 is not related to a specific cooking mode or lock feature you may have accidentally activated
• If error persists after these checks, discontinue use and contact a GE-authorized service technician as sensor replacement requires professional diagnosis
