GE Range Error Code F1

The F1 error code indicates a problem with the oven temperature sensor (RTD sensor) or its wiring connection, preventing the range from accurately monitoring and controlling oven temperature. This is one of the most common error codes on GE ranges sold in the United States.

Step 01

Signs

• Oven will not heat or heat inconsistently • Temperature display shows incorrect readings • Oven shuts off during cooking cycles • Error code F1 appears on the control panel display • Unable to preheat oven to desired temperature • Range may not respond to temperature adjustments made via control panel • Stovetop burners may work normally while oven is non-functional
Step 02

Possible Causes

• Faulty or damaged oven temperature sensor (RTD sensor) • Loose or disconnected wiring harness connected to the temperature sensor • Corroded or damaged sensor connector pins • Sensor wire short circuit or open circuit condition • Control board malfunction unable to read sensor signals • Manufacturing defect in the sensor resistance element • Thermal damage to sensor from prolonged high-heat exposure • Moisture or debris contamination in sensor connector
Step 03

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Power reset: Turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the range for 60 seconds, then turn it back on to clear temporary error codes • Verify circuit breaker: Check that the 240V double-pole circuit breaker for your range is in the ON position and has not tripped • Inspect oven interior: Ensure the oven interior is clean and free of food debris, spills, or racks that could obstruct heat circulation • Check oven door: Confirm the oven door closes completely and latches properly, as a loose door can trigger sensor errors • Review control panel settings: Verify all settings are correct and the range is not in a lock or demo mode that would prevent oven operation • Allow cooling time: Wait at least 15-20 minutes for the range to cool completely before attempting to use it again • Test stovetop functions: Confirm cooktop burners operate normally to isolate whether the issue is oven-specific • Examine visible wiring: If safely accessible, look for any visibly loose connections or damaged wires near the sensor area (do not force any components) • Power cycle multiple times: Try turning the breaker off and on several times in succession, as intermittent connection issues may clear temporarily
Always disconnect power before performing any checks. If unsure, contact a certified technician.
