Step 01
Signs
• Oven will not heat or maintain temperature
• Error code F4 displays on the control panel
• Oven beeps repeatedly
• Unable to start a bake or broil cycle
• Temperature display may show incorrect readings
• Range may not respond to temperature adjustments
Step 02
Possible Causes
• Temperature sensor (RTD sensor) malfunction or failure
• Loose or corroded electrical connections at the sensor terminals
• Damaged wiring harness between sensor and control board
• Sensor wire insulation damage or breaks
• Control board failure preventing sensor signal communication
• Improper sensor installation or displacement during cleaning
• Moisture or debris accumulation on sensor connections
• Power supply voltage issues affecting sensor circuit (240V supply problem on USA models)
Step 03
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Turn off the circuit breaker to the range for 60 seconds, then turn it back on to reset the appliance
• Verify the circuit breaker has not tripped; check your electrical panel and flip breaker off and on if needed
• Ensure the oven door is completely closed and latches properly
• Check that the oven interior is clean and free of food debris or obstructions around the sensor area
• Verify the cooktop surface is clean and unobstructed
• Review your control panel settings to ensure the oven mode is correctly selected
• Allow the range to cool completely for at least 30 minutes before attempting to use it again
• Power cycle the range by unplugging it for 60 seconds if it has a plug, or using the breaker method
• If error persists after reset, contact a certified GE service technician as sensor replacement or internal diagnostics are required
