Possible Causes
• Faulty temperature sensor (thermistor) in the freezer compartment
• Loose or disconnected wiring harness connected to temperature sensor
• Damaged sensor probe from frost buildup or ice accumulation
• Malfunctioning control board unable to read sensor signals
• Power supply issues affecting sensor circuit on 120V outlet
• Defrost cycle malfunction causing excessive frost on sensor
• Control panel circuit board failure interpreting sensor data
Step 03
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Check that your freezer is plugged into a working 120V outlet and verify the outlet has power using another device
• Locate your home's circuit breaker panel and confirm the breaker serving the freezer is in the ON position; if tripped, switch it OFF then back ON
• Unplug the freezer from the wall outlet, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the appliance control board
• Open the freezer door and visually inspect the interior walls, ceiling, and vents for excessive frost or ice buildup; if present, allow the freezer to defrost by leaving the door open in a cool area for 2-4 hours
• Check that the freezer door closes completely and the rubber seal is not cracked or deteriorating
• Ensure freezer vents on the back exterior and any intake areas are not blocked by dust, debris, or stored items
• Verify the freezer is not in a garage or unheated space where ambient temperature drops below 50°F, which can trigger sensor errors
• Review the control panel settings to ensure the temperature is not set to the warmest setting accidentally
• Allow 4 hours for the freezer to stabilize after any power interruption before concluding there is a persistent error
